“Let’s Not Get It Twisted” - Goal Setting for Our Community

Let’s Not Get It Twisted! This was not an event.  This was a concept for a reasonable starting point.

On Sunday, June 7th 2020, we created something special.  “Let’s Not Get It Twisted - GOAL SETTING FOR OUR COMMUNITY” was an open forum gathering on the steps of August Martin High School in South Jamaica Queens, New York.

With the help of Darkskin Randy, Lance Hodge, and several others, we were able to get the interest of over 150 people within 6 days.  As you know, Every Child Needs A Champion believes that empowering and educating the entire community will create change.  In addition, community engagement events like this will help us unite.

Let’s Not Get It Twisted gained the attention of Erica Ford, CEO of LifeCamp.  Their website states, “We are a frontline gun violence prevention and intervention team making our community safer.”  Erica Ford gave a brief speech about home ownership, supporting each others business, and the 2020 census.  Please take the time to visit Peaceisalifestyle.com to get involved and learn more.

Christopher Teel, founder of Every Child Needs A Champion, LLC headlined the event.  He summarized his book “You Got The Right One” which details a false arrest that occurred less than a quarter of a mile from the rally.  In addition, he delivered the contents of his future literature,“Tenets of a Progressive Black Community.”  The tenets included advocating for ourselves first, not participating in self-slander, understanding the laws, understanding and participating in government, being offended, teaching self respect, teaching defense, planning for and setting examples for multigenerational success, supporting black owned businesses, and avoiding participation in destructive behavior.

Within the 6 days of planning Let’s Not Get It Twisted, the 113th Precinct became aware of our event.  We spoke to them, explained our purpose, and had no interaction until it was time to say goodbye.  In the following days our organization requested a written statement about their experience at our event.  We were pleased to have received a letter.  We will also continue to be the organization of progressive thought and partnership.
